New York-based Stephanie Zimmer specializes in commercial and private portraiture of dogs, cats, and other animals, both as personal companions and as competitive and exhibition breeds.

Bringing an extensive background in the film industry and in professional pet care to her work, she is able to capture the personalities of her subjects through a combination of animal psychology, a well-honed sense of timing, and pure patience.

Zimmer earned her Bachelor’s in Film Production at Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and her Master’s in Digital Photography from New York City’s prestigious School of Visual Arts.

Her newest body of work, Inventing the Dog, explores the typology and personality of purebred dogs; one of the photographer’s own mural-scale prints from this project was exhibited at SVA’s Gramercy Gallery.
